What are Leave No Trace principles?

Respect and protect our resources! These simple practices will keep our ecosystems healthy and available for the enjoyment of future generations.

Plan ahead and prepare:

Bring a map of the area and use our interactive map to know which access points are public property and safe for you to use.

Travel and camp on durable surfaces:

Protect plant and wildlife habitat by camping at least 200 feet from lakes and streams, our maps have approved camping areas noted in green.

Dispose of waste properly:

Pack it in, pack it out. Only use potential contaminants such as soap 200 or more feet from the water.

Leave what you find:

Avoid transporting invasive species and preserve the environment by leaving materials like rocks and antlers where they lie.

Minimize campfire impacts:

Make sure fires are allowed, and scatter the ash after you’ve made sure the fire was complete extinguished.

Respect wildlife:

Do not feed, follow, or approach wildlife, store food and trash securely.

Be considerate of other visitors:

Be quiet and let others coming up the trail pass by.
